Media Education
Media Production Capacity Building Dissemmination

Media TrainingTo counter the growing influence of mainstream media on the lives of the children, Abhivyakti launched the media education programme in the local schools of Nashik in 1995.

It aims to equip the children  with critical awareness about media, and in a participatory process attempt to discover ways of strengthening their response towards the media.

It now works in 11 schools of Nashik in close collaboration with theMedia education sessionteachers and parents. A systemic documentation of children’s response is being maintained. Pre and post tests are conducted to monitor and evaluate the impact of the media education sessions. The weekly sessions in schools is based on a media syllabus developed by us. The media syllabus in the school is for std. VI, VII and VIIIth students.

Abhivyakti covers around 500 students of all types of schools.

The centre contains a wide variety of media collected and classified for dissemination on various social themes. This is regularly disseminated.
We would like to reach out to those interested in initiating this programme in schools in their area. To reachout to the masses, Abhivyakti organised Khullam Khulla Madhyam Jatra, a unique kind of Educational fair for children which was based on building critical awareness on mass media. The basic idea of the event was 'Education through entertainment and entertainment through education. All the stalls in the events invited participation from children and stimulated their thinking.

We are open to consultancy and invitation for conducting the event as per the demand.

The glamour of the commercial cinema is constantly hammered on the children and reinforcing them to live with the ideology potrayed in this kind of cinema. The children are deprived of experiencing the tenderness and simplicity featured in children film according to their age. Assessing this requirement, Abhivyakti felt the need to provide an access to the children for viewing children's film. Therefore an initiative taken from Abhivyakti, is the opening of Bal Chitrapat Udyan (Childrens Film Park) at Abhivyakti premises which features Childrens Film on every second and fourth saturday of the month.

Abhivyakti has also produced two booklets concerning Media Education viz. In the World of Mass Media and Media Education In the Indian Context.

In the World of Mass Media : The booklet illustrates day to day example of a life style in which we identify ourselves. It further makes us critically analyse the factors potrayed through media material.

Media Education In the Indian Context : It is a small booklet which features the functions, objectives, methodologies of Media Education Programme in the school. It also reflects the dire need of critical awareness of mass media and its influence on childrens knowledge base and attitude formation. The book gives a brief outlook on the curriculum espesially designed for schools.
