Based on dissemination programmes in a few Ashram Schools (residential schools in tribal areas), organised in connection with creating awareness on environmental issues, Abhivyakti realised the need and the potential to start some project in Ashram schools of Nashik.

Abhivyakti's underlying aim is to understand how tribal children react to media, particularly visuals. During earlier dissemination of media in rural areas, we had experienced the gap that exists between our understanding of visuals and rural people’s perception of them.

The use of urban language and other symbols in posters had failed to convey the intended message.

This perhaps leads to the formation of a project entitled ‘Education through Media’ in Ashram Schools of Nashik.

‘Education through Media’ in Ashram Schools was aimed at making learning easy and interesting for the tribal students. It made use of innovative media aids, based on a theme, to initiate a dialogue with the students. The participation of students, first hesitantly and gradually with eagerness and joy, was based on trust, openness and friendly disposition of our team. “The project demonstrated that open dialogue, based on mutual respect and trust, can enhance learning, and make school life valuable and significant.”  Intervention was at the level of 4th, 5th and 6th class and once a week.
The entire intervention experience is available in a booklet entitled "Susamvadachya Paulkhuna" (Footsteps of effective communication.)
