Sarokkar, a group dedicated to producing films on culture, environment and development in the Central Himalayan region, has produced a film on the Maiti Andolan. The aim of producing this film was not only to inform a wider audience, but also to inspire people in other areas to take up this revolution and spread it further. The main aspects of the film are : To highlight how cultural values can be used to start a movement to preserve the environment, how these values can be used to ensure people's participation, create self help groups and create environmental awareness among the children which will sustain the movement. Maiti refers to the mother's home, and in a village a maiti group of all unmarried girls is formed. Each girl raises three to four saplings around her house. These saplings are then transplanted onto land belonging to the village, like roadsides, fallow land and community forest land and thus a maiti nursery is created. Address : 984, Indira Nagar Colony

A Women's Place 6o minutes, English A Women's Place, a one hour documentary, tells the intimate stories of women from three countries, who are fighting to balance the scales of power so that "a man's world" is also a woman's place. Throughout history, a woman's place has been prescribed by culture and custom. However, in recent times, laws have begun to challenge old belief systems. Can new laws change old ways? This is the central question explored in this one hour documentary as it travels to rural South Africa, middle America and Mumbai, India, to meet women who put a face on the conflict between tradition and change - a conflict being waged across the globe. A Women's Place is a comprehensive project, which integrates community development and education with media. An intensive outreach and education programme is underway in the United States, South Africa and India. In addition, the documentary and print resource materials will be distributed to universities and grassroots organisations around the world for use as a platform for wide ranging discussions on women, law, custom and social change.
